In my honest opinion, Spotify is one of the best things to ever come out of Sweden.
Now that I'm living in the Pacific Northwest, I'm always on the lookout for summer-vibe, upbeat tunes that bring a burst of energy on a rainy day. My top artists lately have been Khalid (I'm really into his smooth sound), LÉON (in my defense, I liked her long before I knew she is Swedish), and SZA, though I'm always on the hunt for a cool new artist to binge.
So here's the top five songs I'm jamming' to now.
"A Good Night" by John Legend + BloodPop
I dare you not to dance while listening to this song. The beat is infectious, and the focus on the always awesome Chrissy Teigen is definitely an added bonus. Also, I not-so-secretly love John dropping "fucked up" in the song's opening line, contrasting his good-boy persona.
"Dancing in the Moonlight" by Toploader (2001 Remix)
A classic song with a funky new twist. For those that loved the film "Eat. Pray. Love." you might recognize this song from the movie soundtrack.
"Runaway (feat. Khalid)" by Tayla Parx
You had to assume that Khalid would be mentioned on this list in some shape or form. The chorus welcomes his smooth vibe, as he sings "I have a cabin in California | But the utilities are a couple months due | You have a house in Syracuse | Lets plan a road trip me and you."
"The Weekend - Funk Wav Remix" by SZA + Calvin Harris
Calvin's twist on the original song speeds it up, adding a groovy beat that matches SZA's voice perfectly. The lyrics tell the story of multiple women sharing a man, and the resulting schedule because of it. Bounce your shoulders to the beat and you'll no doubt end up putting the song on repeat.
"Lost in Japan" by Shawn Mendes
While the artist might be an automatic turn-off for some, I highly recommend you take a listen to this new track. It's vibe mirrors a young John Mayer, and there's no doubt that Shawn's sound has really flourished on this song. Another jazzy beat, lyrics include "I was hoping I could get lost in your paradise | The only thing I'm thinking 'bout is you and I | And I-I-I can't seem to get you off my mind."
